THE TASKS OF TCLC
Improve the living quality of those struggling against social inequality
Everyone faces the possibility of losing one’s home. The causes maybe old age, illness, accidents, intellectual disability or physical disability. TCLC seeks to promote the basic rights to quality housing by: establishing the minimum housing standard, promoting a system for assessing housing functional capacity, promoting barrier-free housing, and establishing “basic housing rights for those struggling against social inequality.”
Promote the concept of community mainstreaming
TCLC seeks to popularize the idea of community mainstreaming, in which individuals can fulfill their needs for food, clothing, housing, transportation, leisure, work, and education either independently or with assistance within their natural community. This is a basic right of all citizens. Social and economic inequalities should not disqualify one from such basic right.
Promote sound government housing policy
TCLC seeks to promote the establishment of “the housing act”, the implementation of comprehensive housing policies, and the drafting of community housing plan, as well as monitor the enforcement of the “integrated housing subsidies program.”
Be a channel through which issues and complaints are voiced
TCLC works to assist, advocate and protect the rights of those who are discriminated against when seeking to live independently in a community.
Be a platform for professional exchange
TCLC seeks to engage in community and independent living services research and development, establish professional exchange in Taiwan and abroad, create opportunities for the sharing of experiences, and build an information network.
